Subject-Centred Statements

Over 100 subject statements are currently available in the Junior Certificate School Programme. Each statement refers to knowledge, ability or skills which are very clearly identifiable with one particular subject in the Junior Certificate curriculum. For example, a Home Economics statement titled ‘Food Studies and Culinary Skills’states:

At Junior Certificate Level the student can: Plan, prepare, cook and present simple, well-balanced meals for individuals and groups.

Subject-based statements reflect many of the aims and objectives of the Junior Certificate subject syllabi. They have been written by practising teachers. Basic concepts and skills required by students to progress successfully in the curriculum of the Junior Certificate are individually defined.
