SL1004: Using Assessment to Support Teaching and Learning in your Classroom

Target Group
This course is an introduction to Assessment for Learning designed to assist teachers who are looking for ways in which their approach to assessment can have a positive impact on student motivation and attainment.
Course Aims
By the end of this modular course, teachers will be able to:

• Identify the range of assessment modes used to assess students’ achievement and progress

• Consider the extent to which assessment intentions are used sensitively and effectively to assist and support teaching and learning

• Plan for ways to share criteria for success in their subject with their students

• Explore how the use of questioning can generate discussion, promote and deepen understanding

• Examine ways in which self and peer assessment can develop improved learning skills

• Identify feedback techniques which are effective in helping students learn

The sessions will facilitate the sharing of ideas and resources.
