SL0821: Work Experience/Work Shadowing in the Senior Cycle
Target Group
Teachers of Work Experience/Work Shadowing in Transition Year, the Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme and Leaving Certificate Applied
Course Aims
By the end of this course, participants should be able to:
• Identify and consider work experience/work placement/work shadowing within the three Senior Cycle Programmes
• Develop a clear understanding of communication needed with the various stakeholders involved in work experience/work placement/work shadowing
• Appreciate the importance of planning for work experience/work placement/work shadowing
• Explore strategies for developing links with potential providers of work experience/work placement/work shadowing
• Identify and engage in a range of practical activities to plan for the teaching and learning of the Health and Safety legislation
• Identify and access relevant resources which support the facilitation of work experience/work placement/work shadowing
• Share experiences of organising work experience/work placement/work shadowing
• Devise strategies for evaluating work experience/work placement/work shadowing in school
• Identify practical strategies towards developing a whole school approach to work experience/work placement/work shadowing
• Develop a CD ROM and templates for use in planning, implementing and evaluating work experience/work placement/work shadowing programmes in school
• Undertake some action research in own work situations, reflect on practice and document the outcomes
